The First Evolutionary...

Been really stupid busy lately with end of the year stuff: assessments, exams, and report cards. In good news I'll be on holiday in less than a month... Phew

So needless to say I haven't been applying myself to anything creative in a real way. Just minor tinkering on mindless "doodles". Thankfully the next ART Evolved gallery is pop culture, so mindless doodles are just what the doctor ordered.

So I finally got this fellow to the point where I feel he is preview able (though not done). My super-saurus. I started work on him the evening after first seeing Avengers. Not sure what to call him...

Saurian Supreme is really resonating with me, but I don't want this to draw connections to the comic Supreme or that character as I loathe them

Captain Pangea maybe.

Super-saurus just seems to obvious. That and his powers I have in mind aren't really supermany (powers not obvious in the model yet... This is just his base form and costume).

Anyways let me know what you think. If I have time I'll put together a villain for him to fight, and maybe the rest of his team the Evolutionaries... Evolutionaries Articulate!!!

Almost the coolest toystore ever!

I want to try and keep posting weird Hong Kongness. A lack of time, and the scary realization I'm normalizing to the weird are the many problems. That's right, where before I'd find something amazing or funny every five minutes, now I only see something truly weird once a day tops...  Not because it isn't there. No I'm just getting apathetic and blind due to constant exposure.

That said if I notice it now, than it has to be really good and funny.

I bring you this Dinosaur construct in a local Toys R Us. I love the concept of a giant balsa wood Dino skeleton kit in a toy store. When I was a kid I had every single balsa Dinosaur that was available my display selves... I kind of miss them actually.

So while I love the concept of this fellow, there is something really wrong with him. I'm sure you can spot it :P

Pop Culture Playtime

I need to remind myself to have fun "doodling" in 3D more often. With my teaching schedule and a relative reduction in available art time I've developed a go big or go home attitude towards projects I tackle. So while this led me to a rather productive streak for the Dan Varner gallery, it has also led me to a slight case of burn out...

I do say slight, as I actual made serious headway on my big palaeo-project, but I'm not at liberty to discuss it. While I wait on feedback on it (which will probably be really delayed due to fieldwork... which I'm more than okay with at moment), I find I can't get into anything else... Which is perhaps a good reason we decided on a more fluffy easy paced gallery topic for the summer. A second pop culture themed gallery.

I've forgotten how fun it is just to brainlessly create stuff in 3D. That's how I started with Raydream/Carrara 15 years ago. It was a more adult version of lego basically. I don't ever have a direct idea when I build lego, so it is fun to apply this same creativity to Carrara (where I don't have to hunt for pieces, and am not limited by a finite collection of blocks).

I'm torn between palaeo themed superheroes or Space Opera. I have made a start on this tech thing that will work in either. I'll leave you to guess what this is the start of (this is only the body so far).

So here is to some fun 3D play tinkering.
